My mother in law travels back to cuba every 3 months or so. One of the things she takes with her is several huge economy sized bottles of aspirin. She drops these off at the local hospitals because often, they don't have any. She takes also rolls and rolls of $1 bills to give to her family because while they can buy most of the food and things they need, they have to buy them in U.S. Dollars. Local currency (the kind you get paid in from that job the government gets you) cannot buy thing like meat, medication, light bulbs, gasoline. She lives in the U.S., because as a 16 year old she was jailed several times for participating in protests. Usually just for a couple of days, the last time for several months.I don't think the Miami School board should ban books, but I am also not a fool who thinks Cuba is a workers paradise where everyone has a job, and free healthcare, etc. It is an oppressive place where censorship means no U.S. books or newspapers are tolerated in the country. Dissenting citizens are jailed and sometimes executed. Many of those people have come to U.S. And many live in Miami. That may be why people in Miami are a little more sensitive about a book that says how nice it is in Cuba.The Cuban Government calls itself Communist, but it is simply a dictatorship. Closer to a monarchy in the way it functions and deals with it's people. I have been there, and I have pulled a lot of Cubans out of the Florida Straights who are trying to make to the U.S. The 1 in 3 who are alive when rescued don't gush about the great jobs and free healthcare.

“There is no hypocrisy here. Iran has voluntarily signed the Non-Proliferation treaty, which forbids it to develop or otherwise acquire nuclear weapons. If it wanted to have the nukes, it should not have signed the treaty, like India, Pakistan, or Israel.

I currently use Jungle Disk backing up to Amazon S3. It's a bit expensive(currently backing up around 90 GB from 3 different family computers comes to around $17 a month) and I am considering jumping to Carbonite for the "unlimited" backup fixed rate though I would have to pay their yearly fee for each separate computer I'm backing up rather than having a single account.I was thinking about doing Time machine backups to a central box then just have a single Carbonite account backup from there. Only issue is then the Time machine backups contain the entire HD of each computer when I only want the irreplaceable things sent to the online backup. Anyone have a good system for backing up multiple systems to a online service??
